Weigh-in #3

We just did our weigh-in at work and although I didnt reach my goal of 3 pounds - I did lose 1.2 pounds!!! Thats a grand total of 5.6 pounds so far :) I wasnt very disciplined this weekend - with working on the house and being so busy, we ate out a lot. I made better choices but still eating out is sooooooooo bad for you pretty much no matter what you get! But last night I tried on my black pants that have been a tad snug and they fit!! Yay!!!
* Our winner for this week is John!!! He lost 7.4 pounds. WOW!! Way to go!!!

Busy Busy Weekend...

So as new homeowners, we, of course, are busy busy busy working on our house. With our move-in date looming less than 2 weeks away, we are trying very hard to get everything done. So this weekend we "kilzed" EVERYTHING in our house that was attached (and some that werent!), got all the ceilings painted a nice off-white and even started with the khaki paint in our hall and living room. My Mom and I made 4 trips to Home Depot on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. Plus a trip to Wal-Mart each day. We bought the new door locks for all the doors (including a kinda fancy one for our front door), new knobs for the bathroom and hall cabinets, a big 5 for our address, and some silver spray paint to redo the front porch light (which I liked the design but not the color) . Now it looks AWESOME!!! Stay tuned for pictures - hopefully I will post later this week :)

New Homeowners!!!

YAY - last Tuesday, Danny & I signed our first papers as Homeowners!!! We sat in an attorney's office for 20 minutes and signed away the next 30 years of our lives :) And we couldn't be more excited!!! Our new abode features 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, an enclosed garage, and a HUGE yard. We have a lot of work to do - the previous owner was a smoker so we are having to "Kilz" every surface in the home. After that we will paint the colors on the wall, get ALL new flooring and finally... start moving in. Our projected move-in date as of now is the weekend of February 6. So we have 3 weeks and 3 weekends to get all our "have-to's" done. Then once we get moved in and settled, we can start working on the other projects we want to do - a walk-in pantry, replace the kitchen counters, replace the bathtub/shower plastic thing with a tiled one, replace the bathroom vanitys, redo the entire back yard, fix up the curb appeal, etc, etc, etc. I will be posting pictures as we move along.
Here are some of the BEFORE pictures.... (actually before we even closed - and yes, they have gotten all the stuff out of the house)
front of the house

living room - that's the back door that leads to the yard

kitchen

master bedroom - thats danny's closet that you see
(mine is a little bigger to the left)

bonus room (enclosed garage)

I will try to post pictures each week so yall can see how far we've come.

Abby Update

Just wanted to let yall know how Abby has been since she gave us a little scare last week. She's doing GREAT now!!! Thanks to 4 different vets, several vet techs, a sonogram, lots of Prednisone and antibiotics... she's good! There was a toss up to whether she had Pancreatitus or an Intestinal tract infection but either way she's much better now. Last Sunday she was finally able to eat 1 Tbsp of a special intestinal healthy prescription food and she's now up to about a 1/3 cup three times a day. And there's been NO PUKING!! yay! She lost probably 3 pounds since she had nothing but liquids for 4 days but I am confident she will gain it back. So thank you so much for all your prayers and concerns!!! We really appreciate it :)

Lions & Tigers & ... Kangaroos?

This weekend our mall is having a display of tigers, lions, a lemur & a kangaroo. So Kristi & I took the boys down there last night and let them play with the kittens. They are 2 1/2 months old and already they were HUGE! Their paws were incredibly huge. But they were so cute and soft. The trainers told us all kinds of information and were very helpful keeping the kittens from gnawing on our feet and fingers and... babies!!! We had a blast.
And of course, being that we were in the Mall, we had to ride on the cars. So while the boys did that and played with their new Zebra toys - Kristi and I just sat right down and chatted for a while.
Its so good to get those two together. Being the EXACT same age, they really understand each other! Its just me & Kristi who are having to put up with two 2.5 year olds at the SAME TIME!!!! But it was LOTS of fun and wish we could get together more often!!! Hey Kristi.... we need to work on that, girl :)

Weigh-in #1

I know I'm almost a week late posting this but it's been crazy around here this week!!! We weighed in for our Biggest Loser Contest at work and I LOST 2 pounds!!! WHOOOOOO-HOOOO. I know some of you are thinking, "That's not much" but let me tell you how I usually NEVER lose weight. #1 - I have NO will power. Put food in front of me, I will eat it. #2 - I HATE HATE HATE to excercise. I. MEAN. HATE. with a capital H! And yes, last week I did NO exercising. I just ate better. and less. LOTS less!! I only had one coke (which wasn't terrible) and had NO CANDY or SWEETS!!! YAY GO ME!!!! Anyway, I'm excited. And as my friend Matty put it - if I continue to lose 2 pounds a week for the 12 weeks we are doing this, I will have lost 24 pounds. That my friends.... is TOTALLY worth it!!!!
*Laurie won the $100 weekly prize money. She lost 6 pounds!!! Way to go Laurie :)
**Stay tuned for next week's weigh-in.

Just Finished...

--Until the phone calls came at three o'clock on a November morning, the Golds and their neighbors, the Hartes, had been inseparable. It was no surprise to anyone when their teenage children, Chris and Emily, began showing signs that their relationship was moving beyond that of lifelong friends. But now seventeen-year-old Emily is dead—shot with a gun her beloved and devoted Chris pilfered from his father's cabinet as part of an apparent suicide pact—leaving two devastated families stranded in the dark and dense predawn, desperate for answers about an unthinkable act and the children they never really knew.--

GREAT book!!! I couldn't put it down. Which I'm sure everyone in my family hates because I really can't do anything while I'm reading ;) Very suspenseful. She is just such a great writer!!

PS - If you ever want to borrow a book from me, please let me know. And I would always love to borrow books from you....

Abby

My sweet baby girl Abby is sick. She has been throwing up for nearly 2 weeks. We did take her to the clinic the Saturday before Christmas and they helped her for a little while but shes still sick. So I took her to our trusty vet here in town and after several draws of blood and multiple tests, diagnosed her with Pancreatitus. So she will be on a liquid diet for 3 days (basically water, pet-a-lyte *like pedialyte but for animals*, gatorade and chicken broth). Then after that she has a tablespoon of a special wet food every few hours. Awww...my poor baby. But we are confident that she will be back to normal in no time!!!

Biggest Loser

Today at work we started doing "The Biggest Loser" contest. Basically we were weighed in today and we will weigh in every Tuesday from now until April 14. Whoever loses the most PERCENTAGE of weight wins! Every week when we weigh in, the Biggest Loser gets $100. If you gain a pound, you have to pay $1 for each pound. Then in April we all get a percentage of a $3000 grand prize. The more weight you lose, the more money you get :) So I am very excited!! I will NOT tell you how much I weighed today but I'm happy to say that I only weigh 4 more pounds than when I got pregnant with Gavin. Which is GREAT!!! Because I was really thinking that I weighed about 10-15 more pounds than that! So every week I will keep you posted on my weight loss. I have never been a very good dieter... I have NO willpower! So please keep me in your prayers and if I am ever around you, please keep me from eating everything in sight. Thanks and wish me luck!!!

Just Finished...

Jennifer, a newspaper columnist who's grieving the death of her husband, has more reason to mourn when her beloved grandmother, Sam, falls into a coma. Jennifer rushes to Sam's home in Lake Geneva, Wis., where she finds a packet of letters addressed to her. The letters detail her grandmother's life story, including an affair she had with a mysterious man. Jennifer takes comfort in the letters, and at the same time, embarks on her own romance with Brendan, an old friend.

I started and finished this one last night. Yes, I read on my New Years Eve. Gavin watched a movie and Danny slept (got up to go hunting this morning). But it was cute. Sweet little romance. I HATE the way he keeps saying the characters names though. No one really talks like that! Drives me nuts! But the rest of the book was good. Good ending.

Just Finished....

Delia Hopkins was six years old when her father allowed her to be his assistant in the amateur magic act he performed at the local senior center's annual Christmas pageant. "I learned a lot that night," recalls Delia, who is now 32, at the start of Picoult's absorbing new novel (her 12th, after My Sister's Keeper). "That people don't vanish into thin air...." She has come to know this even better as an adult: she makes her living finding missing people with her own search-and-rescue bloodhound. As she prepares for her wedding, however, Delia has a flash of memory that is so vivid yet so wildly out-of-place among the other memories from her idyllic New Hampshire upbringing that she describes it to a childhood friend, who happens to be a reporter. Soon, her whole world and the world of the widowed father she adores is turned upside down. Her marriage to her toddler's father, a loving but still struggling recovering alcoholic, is put on hold as she is forced to conduct a search-and-rescue mission on her own past and identity. It will cut to the heart of what she holds to be true and good. As in previous novels, Picoult creates compelling, three-dimensional characters who tell a story in alternating voices about what it might mean to be a good parent and a good person, to be true to ourselves and those we love. Picoult weaves together plot and characterization in a landscape that is fleshed out in rich, journalistic detail, so that readers will come away with intriguing questions rather than pat answers.

I finished this one Monday while I was home sick with a stomach virus. Very good read. Kinda hit a little close to home and was pretty scary in that way. I cant imagine going through what happens in this book. But I love Jodi Picoult. She is such a great writer. My fave of hers so far is "My Sister's Keeper". Wow! Definite page turner!
